Description |
Pair of black leather baby shoes (.01 and .02) dated circa 1934-1938. The shoes have leather soles, a black leather strap that fastens around the ankle with a black button, and an art deco design on the outside of the toe of a silver triangle and three circular holes punched out of the upper and brown topstitch detail. The lining is ecru cotton with a black stamp on the insole which reads "Children's Shoe / Comfort / Co Reg'd." |

These shoes were worn by Evelyn Margaret Eloise Root (18 July 1938 - 23 May 2017) of Erin Township. Evelyn was the daughter of John Henry Haines Root (17 October 1908 - 1991) and Lillie Matilda Toop (30 July 1906 - 5 October 1997). John and Lillie married on 20 July 1932 in Almonte, Ontario. John and Lillie lived in Erin Township on concession 3, lot 20. They had six children, John BENNETT Root (24 May 1933 - 19 February 2016), Ada Lillie MARIE Root (27 June 1934 - 4 September 1936), EVELYN Margaret Eloise Root (18 July 1938 - 23 May 2017), GEORGE David Walter Root (b. 15 August 1939), ROBERT Orville Winston (b. 11 November 1943) and Alfred CLAYTON Henry Root (b. 25 August 1948). John Henry Haines Root was the son of David Oscar Root (1872-1937) and Gertude Eloise Nicholasina Watson (1879-1945). |
