A light grey and white flat rock containing many "grapolite" fossils. It is dated to 700-800 million years old. It was found in the gravel deposits around Kincardine, Bruce County. |
Provenance |
Fossils are dated to 800 million years old. The donor found the pieces in the gravel deposits around Kincardine, Bruce County. The donor (b. 1926) left school at the age of 16 and went to work at the Palmerston railroad. He married in Palmerston in 1948 and continued to work there until the mid 1950s. In 1955, he joined the Kitchener Police Force until 1970. From 1993-2001 he and his wife lived in Mt. Forest and then moved to Kitchener. For 50 years he has studied paleontology as a hobby. He has displayed his collections at the ROM identification days and donated pieces to the Bruce County Museum. Some of the other pieces in this collection were also found in the rock piles by the creek on his family's farm on Conc. 8 Lot 2, Peel Twp. |
