The artist's family immigrated from Brackley, Oxfordshire, England, settling in Guelph Township, Wellington County, in the 1830s. Jane P. Tolton (1845-1921) was the daughter of William Tolton (1813-1901) and Hannah Parkinson (1811-1887) of Eramosa Township. This painting, which the donor described as depicting a prize bull, was entered into competition at a fall fair. |
