Description |
A black cotton tucked shirtwaist circa 1900. There is a partially detachable tucked high-necked collar that is attached with hooks and eyes. There are eight tucks across the front with one large centre tuck and four covered buttons with five black buttons underneath. There are six sets of five rows of tucks around the sleeves. French back yoke and pleat in the center back. There are three hooks and two long cords at the back of the shirtwaist. |

Property of the donor's mother, Mrs. Edith Jane Wallace (McDermaid) who lived in Teviotdale and married in 1924. Edith moved to Fergus in 1944 and lived there until her death in 1976. This shirtwaist is believed to have been preserved by Edith but belonged originally to either her mother, Isabella McDermaid (Blair, d. 1944) or her grandmother Mrs. Blair (Hood d. 1895). |
