1820 CIRCA |
Provenance |
This watch belonged to Jane McGregor's father, Alexander Johnston of Salem, who brought it with him from Scotland circa 1860. A paper inside the watch shows the following dates for repairs - "Sept. 1826 - 9689, James Carnegie Watchmaker. June 1827 - John Mearns, Aberdeen. Oct. 1845 - Wm. Mackie, Aberdeen". By these early dates, the watch probably belonged to Alexander's father before him. Alexander was born in 1835 in Scotland and was a blacksmith in Salem. |
