Description |
A coffin plate for Anna Loree, 1884. The rectangular silver-plated coffin plate has a raised oval centre and a stamped floral design in each corner. There are small holes for screws, one on each side, for nailing the plate to the coffin. Inscribed on the coffin plate is "Anna C. Loree / Died April 10 1884 / Aged 77 Years, 9 Months, 3 Days". |

The donor bought this coffin plate at an auction sale of Mrs. Wesley (Elsie) Leitch of Rockwood, in July 1991. The coffin plate was for Anna Catherine (Buck) Loree (1806-1884). Her parents were Michael Buck and Sarah Huffman. Anna was married to James Loree (1802-1888) on December 30th, 1824 at Trafalgar, District of Gore, Ontario. Together they had nine children: Mary Ann Tindall (1825-1910), Michael William (1827- 1900), Sarah Elizabeth Patterson (1830-1889), James Franklin (1834-1887), John (1837-1861), Margaret Ann (1842-1849), Gideon Hall (1845-1924), Rachael (1847-1849) and Charles (1848-1860).
