Provenance |
Typewriter belonged to Peter Marucci, a local journalist who lived in Fergus. In the late 1950's, Peter worked for the Guelph Guardian and the Guelph Mercury. After a brief stint in London's Fleet Street, Peter returned to Canada working in the Editorial Department of the Toronto Telegram until it folded in 1971. He then moved to the Toronto Star where he was appointed to their Editorial Board and for 15 years he was responsible for their Letters to the Editor page. In 1985 he became Managing Editor of the new Guelph Tribune and began writing his weekly humour column, "Around Our Place". At one time, the syndicated column appeared in newspapers in every Canadian province. In 1986, Peter moved to the Fergus-Elora News Express and "Around Our Place" continued there for 24 years. For the first 15 or more of those years, this was the typewriter that Peter produced his column on. |
