Description |
Wool wedding dress, 1898. The bodice of the wedding dress has seven panels joined at the side seams. The yoke, epaulettes and stand-up collar are of embossed silk in a floral pattern. A wide frill over the shoulders trimmed with a gathered satin ribbon. Long set-in sleeves are made from two panels. The wrist has three flaps and a frill of net lace. The sleeves are the leg-o-mutton type. Pleat at the centre back. Nine buttons at the left side closure. Lined with off-white glaze cotton. Fourteen wire tapes extend from waist. Ten hook-and-eyes on the lining. Seven hooks and loops to close the front panels at the neck and shoulders. The centre panel is gathered to form three frills and is trimmed with off-white satin ribbon which is also present on the wrist, neckline, and in the tiny ribbon bows on the front. (.02) the full-length skirt matches the bodice. Wool with a cotton twill lining. Seven panels with three bias cut frills on the lower edge of the skirt. A short train. The back opening has no buttons but three hooks and eyes at the waist. Two hooks at the back waist for attachment to the bodice. The hem of the skirt is edged with white velveteen. Hand-stitched.
