A circular wooden token. On the front is stamped in red an Indigenous man's profile and "Wooden Nickel," around his head. On the back is stamped in red "Nancy's-Nik-Naks/ Elora/ Ontario/ Good for face value on next purchase." This artifact has been photographed with 1993.24.11. |

The token belonged to Alison Maitland (d.1991) who was the maternal aunt of the donor. She was born at Lot 1, Conc. 2, Nichol Twp. She trained as a nurse at Toronto General Hospital and graduated in 1925. She then worked at a U. of T. residence as the nurse who looked after the students' health. She returned to Elora in the 1940s to look after her father, John D. Maitland, and her aunts Elizabeth, Minnie and Ellen. She remained in Elora until her death. |
