Description |
A woman's white cotton broadcloth petticoat. The petticoat has a drawstring waist with a blue ribbon. It is constructed out of four tiers of cotton. The first tier is made out of one piece of cotton. It has a central front insertion with eyelet embroidery. The second tier is made out of three panels in varying widths. The third tier is made of three pieces of cotton in varying widths. It has two sets of four pin tucks. The fourth tier consists of three panels in varying widths and it has eyelet embroidery. The petticoat has a frilled dust ruffle. |

The petticoat belonged to the donor's mother, Edith Jane (McDermaid) Wallace of Teviotdale. She was married in 1924 and moved to Fergus in 1944 and lived there until her death in 1976. The petticoat is believed to have belonged originally to either Edith's mother, Isabella (Blair) McDermaid (d. 1944) or her grandmother, Mrs. Blair (nee Hood), who died in 1895. |
