Provenance |
It was used in the dining room of Grandview Farm, Hillsburgh, the donor's home, since the 1920s. The farm, at Lot 26, Concession 7, Erin Twp., was first owned by Donald McMurchy and then his son Charles and wife Fanny Reid who probably bought the linoleum for their dining room in the 1920s. Their son, Donald (1907-1991) and his wife Mae (Folliott or Follett, d.1994) were married in 1936 and lived at the farm for at least fifty years. Three children: Robert, Charles and Mary. Linoleum or 'congoleum' is a composition made up of linseed oil and sawdust which is stamped with an oil-based colour pattern. This particular pattern and style was a common kitchen addition in the 1920s. |
