Description |
Light brown wooden cane with curved handle. There is a metal plate wrapped around the cane below the handle, engraved with "Capt. J.L. Potter / 153 Btn / C.E.F." The cane has a metal tip, and the base of the cane is wrapped with tape. Badge 2017.17.2 was tied around the cane at the time of the donation, but has been stored separately. |

This cane belonged to Captain John Leece Potter (1869-1951) who served for fifteen years with the 30th Wellington Rifles, and served overseas with the 153rd Battalion CEF in the First World War. He enlisted with the 153rd in London, Ontario on 29 October 1916, and sailed to England from Halifax, NS aboard the S.S. Olympic on 29 April 1917. |
