Enhanced photograph (.01) by an unidentified, likely Canadian, artist, ca. 1895; it is a portrait of twins "Wilhelmina and Helen Jones, age 1, of Elora"; the charcoal portrait depicts the twins seated side by side on the grass, wearing light-toned summer dresses; neutral dark background with suggestion of a tree behind them at right. Mounted in a wooden frame (.02) painted cream [or originally white] with moulded central portion with acanthus leaf design painted gold, as is the inner line of frame. E729 |

Helen Elmslie Jones and Wilhelmina Scott Jones were born 14 February 1894 to John Jones (1852-1942) and wife Martha Scott (1860-1948). Identical twins, they grew up on the family farm at Lot 15, Concession 3 west of the Grand River in Pilkington Township, with their siblings Bessie (1891-1980) and Gordon (1895-1953). Wilhelmina, known as "Winnie", graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in Toronto in 1922. |
