Description |
Stamped metal cap badge for the 153rd (Wellington) Battalion, C.E.F. dated to the First World War. The badge is in the shape of a maple leaf, with the numbers "153" at the centre in an oval circumscribed "Wellington / Overseas" wreathed by small maple leaves and surmounted by an Imperial crown (aka King's crown, Tudor crown). There is a banner across the lower half of the oval bearing the latin motto "virtutis fortuna comes" and "CANADA" below. There are two lugs on the reverse of the pin, oriented vertically. |

This badge belonged to Captain John Leece Potter (1869-1951) who served for fifteen years with the 30th Wellington Rifles, and served overseas with the 153rd Battalion CEF in the First World War. He enlisted with the 153rd in London, Ontario on 29 October 1916, and sailed to England from Halifax, NS aboard the S.S. Olympic on 29 April 1917. |
