Fred Hotson records, Fergus, ca.1930-ca.1990. William Frederick Hotson and his wife Gertrude Alice Vince, were the parents of Frederick William Hotson (1913-2012), John Henry Hotson (1915-1993) and Edward Charles Hotson (1930-2000). Ed Hotson was a Fergus photographer, who also worked for Beatty Bros. Fred Hotson was born in Toronto and grew up in Fergus. He attended Fergus High School and was editor of Vox Scholae in 1933. He worked for a year at Beatty Bros., and entered an aircraft engineering course at Central Technical School in Toronto, graduating in 1935. For him, there followed a distinguished career flying planes and writing aviation history; he was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame in 1998. Mr. Fairley was born in 1900 in Manitoba and grew up with his Hibbert grandparents in Owen Sound. He graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1921 and in 1923, married Edna Churchill of London, Ontario. Just before Christmas, 1925, he opened a drugstore in Fergus which did well until 1933, when he sold the business to Fred Matthews. Alexander and Edna Fairley and their two children left Fergus in 1937. - ph 39536 - ph 39551: 16 b&w and coloured prints of the Hotson brothers - Frederick William Hotson (1913-2012), John Henry Hotson (1915-1993) and Edward Charles Hotson (1930-2000).
