Cookbook compiled by Hawley Johnston from old recipes found in the cookbook of her aunt, Catherine Knight (nee Johnston), a descendant of the McGowan family of Elora, Ontario; soft cover, coil bound, 71 pages; indexed; most of the recipes are for desserts or sweet items (cakes, scones, pies, muffins, pudding, biscuits, marmalade, cookies) though there are a few recipes for items like salad dressing, ketchup, fish, soup, and meat loaf; includes recipes that had belonged to Grace McGowan, Jean McGowan, Jessie McGowan, Margaret McGowan, Mrs. John McGowan, Nettie (White) McGowan, Sara McGowan, as well as friends of the family: Esther Mundell, Mabel Bell, Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. Foster; introduction by Hawley Johnston offers some family history and biographical information about the women in her family who had kept these recipes. |
