Aerial view of the Irvine Bridge, Elora, and Salem, ca. 1875. Black and white stereograph taken by Thomas Connon around 1875, looking northwest from a height toward the Irvine River Bridge (at left), Elora, and Salem. In the foreground is a field (Park Lot 19, Elora) with a pump and two people - the image of one figure is doubled, likely due to a long exposure. This area has at times been identified as a cricket field; however, a close examination of the image does not corroborate this. Just beyond the field is Park Lot 20 and the house at 220 Smith Street, Elora. Beyond that is David Street, with the Irvine River Bridge to the left and part of the house at 22 David Street West to the right. Some of the buildings in Salem can be made out in the background, including a view of the house at 4 Sophia Street. - ph 3755 [For additional information see A2023.61, page199]. |
