Description |
Cultural Heritage Evaluation and Heritage Impact Assessment reports relating to the bridge, dam, and ponds at Hillsburgh, Ontario, 2014-2015. Two reports prepared by Archaeological Services Inc. of Toronto for Triton Engineering Services Limited of Fergus, relating to the bridge, dam, and ponds at Hillsburgh, Ontario, 2014-2015. The Town of Erin owns the bridge, street, and dam (the County of Wellington owns the ponded water). The Town of Erin held a Public Information Meeting on the subject of these reports on the evening of 19 May 2016. An article about the outcome of that meeting was published in the Wellington Advertiser of 03 June 2016. The Town of Erin Heritage Committee notes re. the report about the Station Street bridge that, "the consultants were not able to determine who the bridge contractor/builder was but we (Heritage Committee) [have] been able to determine it was Charles Smith. It is faintly embossed 'C. Smith Contractor on the bridge structure and noted n the Erin Township Centennial History book from 1967. As well '1917' and AC. McKinnon Reeve is also embossed on the bridge. Alexander McKinnon was the Reeve of Erin Township for many years including 1907-1909 and 1913-1918 and he was the Warden for all of Wellington County in 1906. In a addition he was the District 2 representative on County Council from at least 1903-1906. District 2 was when Wellington County was divided into 'Divisions' from 1897-1906 and the area of District 2 was Erin Township, Erin Village, and Eramosa Township." - item 1: Report titled "Cultural Heritage Evaluation and Heritage Impact Assessment: Hillsburgh Dam Bridge, Station Street over the Spillway Separating Hillsburgh Pond and Ainsworth Pond, Lot 24, Concession VII, Town of Erin, Wellington County, Ontario, Structure No. 2064" November 2014.
