Guelph, Elora, Fergus and Belwood, scrapbooks, 1933 - 1964. Fergus resident, Mrs. Walter Moore (nee Mary Jane Magloughin 1879-1964) created over 100 scrapbooks of clippings from the Fergus News Record, the Elora Express and the Guelph Mercury. Five of the books donated to the Archives are listed below: - file 1: No.10 - "Old miscellaneous Fergus." Begins with Fergus Centennial celebrations, 1933. Includes historical portraits and views of Fergus and Elora. Latest date 1964. - file 2: No.58 - "History of Guelph." Begins with History of Guelph article by David Allan from the Guelph Mercury, 21 June 1940. Includes provincial and local politics; death of Elinor Glyn; return of Guelph missionary Dr. Jean Millar from China; biography of John McCrae by H.O. Howitt; visit of the King and Queen to Guelph, June 1939; running of the Queen's Plate in Guelph; Guelph men and women in the military; nurses; latest date 1945. - file 3: No.60 - "County Observes 100th Year / Elora, July 1954 - 1957." Includes clippings re planning and opening Wellington County Museum, 1954; opening of Elora Gorge Park, 1954; Elora weddings and anniversaries; stories of famous hymns. - file 4: No.94 - "Building the Shand Dam / Pictures of Ice & flooding 1930s."
