Description |
Fergus Bowling Lanes score chart, advertising, and historical information, ca. 1950. Sade and Wilda Widmeyer sold their billiard room in Clifford and bought the Fergus Bowling Lanes in December 1952. They ran it for 33 years then sold to Bill and Linda Hamilton in 1985. The alley was set to close its doors at the end of February 2007 [See Fergus-Elora News Express, 31 Jan. 2007]. Pat Mestern's "Looking Back" (Vol.1, p.306) reports that the Bowling Alley was built in 1946 by Nibs Chambers and Matt Wilson [Harold J. Chambers and Matthew J. Wilson]. [Items 1-3 stored AC 36; item 4 stored MU 654] - item 1: Score chart, ca.1950; includes spaces for scoring 12 lanes, playing 10 frames, surrounded by advertising for Fergus Dairy, Elora Hardware Co., Fergus Scotch Bakery, The Priory Lounge in Fischer's Royal Hotel [Guelph], the South Wellington Co-Op, Beauty Crest Hair Styling, Richardson Motors, Bettink's Shoe Store, McNiven Insurance Company, and Fergus Motors Limited; multiple pages. - item 2: Advertising card sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors' Assocation of Ontario (founded 1953), with text, "Junior Leagues for children of all ages / Ask about our special prices", 14 x 40 cm; ca. 1955. - item 3: Advertising card sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors' Assocation of Ontario (founded 1953), with text, "League Bowlers Wanted / Ask at counter for details"; cardboard; 14 x 40 cm, ca. 1955. - item 4: File of information relating to the history of Fergus Bowling Lanes, after 1950. |
