Description |
A white cotton broadcloth nightcap dated circa 1840 -1845. The cap is handstitched constructed from a single piece of fabric, with two deep darts at the back. The nightcap has a drawstring located at the nape of the neck. The ties are made from a coarser material and are edged with a plain frill of a finer fabric. |

The needlework on this cap was done by Helen (Irving) Grieve, circa 1840-1850. She was born in Scotland in 1818. She married Robert Grieve in Canada and died in Stratford in 1913. |
