1947.23.10 - Vestee

A white cotton vestee dated circa 1840-1850. It has handmade eyelet embroidered lace with a drawn thread pattern. The vestee has ruching and the bottom has a scalloped trim. There are holes and tears in the vestee.

A pair of white cotton apron ties (.01 and .02) dated circa 1840. The ties are rectangular in shape with scalloped ends. They are hand embroidered in satin stitch and blanket stitch. On the ends is drawn thread work.

1947.23.13.03 - Cuff Collar

A collar (.01) and a pair of cuffs (.02 and.03) dated circa 1840-1850. The white starched, handfluted (ruffled) collar is made of cotton. The cuffs are stitched on the dress (1975.71.1).

A black horn snuff box bound with silver. Silver ends and hinge. One end is loose. It is dated circa 1800 - 1825.

A white cotton voile baby's bonnet dated circa 1840-1850. The bonnet has a circular inset piece at the back. It has three rows of ruching around the brim and back. Two of these rows are also quilted. The bonnet has two tape ties. It has four small holes over the hat with four of them darned.

Small hand held tool made of solid brass. One end has a semi-circular fluted blade; the opposite end has a fluted rotating wheel. It is dated early 20th century.

A large, brown, horn spoon dated circa 1750 to 1800. The handle is broken. What remains of the handle is bent.

Handmade wooden butter paddle. Wide with flat handle. Rough finish. Cracked.

1947.23.5 - Beadwork Cushion, Pin Cushion, Toilette Cushion, Whimsey PIncushion Souvenir

Dense, rectangular, multi-lobed pincushion. Top centre is purple velvet embellished with raised clear beading in a bird and flower design. Solid beading in a leaf design fills each lobe; two leaves in each section; one in clear beads and the other in colour. Faded pink polished cotton backing is edged with clear beads which form a loop fringe on the corners. Stuffing is presumed to be sawdust.

Rectangular, white cotton antimacassar dated circa 1880-1900. It has a white macrame cord. Each end has a crocheted pattern with a fringe.

1947.23.7 - Cap, Woman Nightcap, Woman Hat, Woman

A white cotton broadcloth nightcap dated circa 1840 -1845. The cap is handstitched constructed from a single piece of fabric, with two deep darts at the back. The nightcap has a drawstring located at the nape of the neck. The ties are made from a coarser material and are edged with a plain frill of a finer fabric.

A white dimity indoor bonnet dated circa 1855-1860. The bonnet is hand stitched. The sides and crown are made from a single strip of fabric. The bonnet has a frill at the front with a drawstring. It is edged in fine lace. The ties are made of the same dimity fabric.

A white dimity indoor bonnet dated circa 1840-1850. The handstitched bonnet is made of a single piece of material gathered into a rectangular shape at the nape of the neck. The bonnet is decorated with two rows of tucks, one band of handmade eyelet lace and three nainsook frills edged in machine lace. It has short tie fasteners.
