Description |
A white cotton voile baby's bonnet dated circa 1840-1850. The bonnet has a circular inset piece at the back. It has three rows of ruching around the brim and back. Two of these rows are also quilted. The bonnet has two tape ties. It has four small holes over the hat with four of them darned. |

The needlework on this bonnet was done by Helen (Irving) Grieve, circa 1840-1850. She was born in Scotland in 1818. She married Robert Grieve in Canada and died in Stratford in 1913. The baby bonnet was most likely worn by her daughter, Helen in 1848. The style of the bonnet dates it circa 1840 -1850. |
