McRitchie documents,1881-1920; Richardson postcard, 1936; Drayton Advocate card, ca.1930; Palmerston Hospital plan, 1984. SERIES 1: Alexander Robinson McRitchie, 1881-1920. Alex R. McRitchie was born ca. 1855 in Merrickville, Ontario to Alex and Ann McRitchie, and spent his career working in high schools throughout Ontario, including at Arthur in Wellington County. He married Maud Bell (ca.1867-1893) and after her death, Ada Fraser (1867-1956), and had children from both marriages. file 1: Certificates, 1881-1920. [MU 985] - item 1: Certificate of Grade A, Public School Second Class certificate of qualitification, presented to Mr. A.R. McRitchie by the Principal of the Normal School, Ottawa, Ontario, 15 July 1881. - item 2: Interim certficiate to teach in a high school, presented to Mr. Alex Robinson McRitchie (B.A. University of Toronto) by the Provincial School of Pedagogy, December 1892. - item 3: Certificate of qualifaction as principal of a high school, presented to Mr. Alexander Robinson McRitchie, B.A. of the University of Toronto, by Minister of Education, 26 July 1894. - item 4: Interim certificate to teach in a high school as a specialist in natural science, presented to Mr. Alexander R. McRitchie by the Provincial School of Pedagogy, 29 December 1894. - item 5: First Class certificate of qualification as a Public School Teacher or High School Assistant presented to Mr. Alexander R. McRitchie by the Minister of Education, 07 May 1895. - item 6: Certificate of qualification as Principal in a high school as a specialist in science, presented to Mr. Alexander Robinson McRitchie by the Minister of Education, 19 January 1897. - item 7: Intermediate certificate in agriculture and horticulture, valid in a high or continuation school, presented to Mr. Alex. R. McRitchie, B.A., by the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, 05 November 1914. - item 8: Interim certificate in farm mechancis, presented to Alexander R. McRitchie by the Ontario Agricultural College, Guelph, 26 September 1918. - item 9: List of students and their grades in reading, spelling, writing, liturature, etc.; handwritten, two pages; undated, ca. 1920; donor found the list amonst the materials relating to A.R. McRitchie; birth records show that many of the students on this list were born between 1908-1910 in Arthur Township and West Luther Township, Wellington County. **[FOI CONSULT ARCHIVIST]** file 2: Correspondence, 1906-1920. [MU 985] - item 1: Letter addressed to "Prof. A.R. McRitchie / High School / Kincardine / Ont" from his friend A.E. Logan, 07 December 1906, re. correspondence, ship voyage past Gibraltar, White Star Lines, presuming never to return to Canada, regrets about leaving, preparing to acclimatise to European ways, glad that Prof. McRitchie likes his new position and town, hunting, fishing, questions about Kincardine, visit at Christmas; 3 handwritten pages plus envelope. - item 2: Letter addressed to Mr. A.R. McRitchie, Arthur, Ontario, from his old acquaintance Jean Bleuett to Toronto, 05 October 1920, re. terms of Bleuett providing McRitchie with a variety performance, reminiscing about playing the game "pump pump pull away" in school together; 1 sheet, 4 pages. SERIES 2: Postcards, ca. 1930-1936. [STACKS] - ph 32655: Christmas postcard of a group posed in front of a church organ, ca. 1930; on card "Merry Christmas / Brock Barber Davis -- Drayton Advocate"; unposted. - ph 32656: Postcard addressed to Mrs. Pearl Richardson of Fergus, Ontario, from "Cam" in Quebec, 08 July 1936, re. trip to Quebec, rides on the midway, travelling by trailor; image on front of Union train station, Quebec. SERIES 3: Palmerston and District Hospital, 1984. [MC 19] - MAP 2040: Whiteprint plan, "Palmerston & District Hospital Room 1", showing specifications re. dimensions, furniture, electrical outlets, ducts, cables, Prestilix tables and controls. Drawing likely relates mostly to cables, as was created by CGR Canada and a table on the plan notes "Cable supplied & fitted by CGR". Drawn by C. Atkins, 30 March 1884 and amended 24 April 1984 and 10 May 1984; scale 1:20.
