Photograph of the Nicholson family children of Palmerston, and postcards from Arthur, Puslinch Lake, and Rockwood, ca. 1886-1938. - ph 35262: Studio portrait of children identified on reverse as "Harry / Fred / & / Ethel / Nicholson", ca. 1886; photo by E. Caswell of Palmerston. These were three of the children of shoemaker Joseph Nicholson and wife Thirzah Johnston of Palmerston. The 1891 Census of Palmerston shows them with the following children: Chris (age 16), Lucy (age 14), Ethel (age 13), Emma (age 12), Fred (age 9), Harry (age 7), and Thirza (age 3). - ph 35263: Postcard of Pinnacle Rock, Rockwood with British union and Canadian flags, Canadian crest, and maple leaves, published by Atkinson Bros. in 1905; sent from "J.N.S." to the Parnell Baking Co. of London, Ontario on 31 Oct. 1905 with message "will not require bread to-morrow, Wednesday". - ph 35264: Postcard of noctural scene on Puslinch Lake with boaters and sign on boathouse, "tents for rent," with printed text "Puslinch Lake by moonlight. Near Preston and Hespeler, Canada," ca. 1910; published by Stedman Bros. Ltd. of Brantford; addressed to "D. Alice" from "Bert" with note, "does this remind you of "Perps". - ph 35265: Postcard of Main Street of Arthur with horse-drawn vehicle and signs for "J.M. Small" and "Salada," postmarked 10 Mar. [19]08; sent from "N.E." to Winnifred Sayers of Shelburne re. Arthur's Main Street and writing letter. - ph 35266: Postcard of the Arlington Hotel on Main Street, Arthur, with man out front, postmarked 28 Oct. 1913; neighbouring buildings near the intersection also visible; identified on front as "Arlington Hotel Arthur, Ont"; published by A.G. Smith of Streetsville, ON; addressed to Mrs. William Paddock of R.R.2 Hespeler from her son Jack, re. his travels to Arthur, and stopping in Fergus en route to stable his horse Nellie, and to visit with papa at work. - ph 35267: Postcard of landscape with river and farm with barns, identified as "River scene, Arthur, Ontario. - 11", ca. 1920; published by the Canada Gift and Novelty Co. Ltd. of Ottawa; anonymous message relates that "This is a small branch that goes through Arthur then another couple small ones comes in & makes quite a large river just down here, a mile from us." - ph 35268: Postcard of the Arthur Cenotaph with shrubs and cannon, postmarked 22 Apr. [1930 or 1938]; published by J.E. Evans of Walsingham, Ont.; sent to Eleanor Whitman of Omaha, Nebraska, from Gloria Sexton re. stopover in Arthur on the way to Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. |
