SERIES 1: IMAGE POSTCARDS, 1905-1980. [MU 1145] ARTHUR - ph 39084: B&w. St. John's R.C. [Roman Catholic] Church, Arthur, Ont. With pencilled note: "Hello Jack this is the church I go to it is a pritty place Arthur Well good bye write soon." [not mailed] - ph 39085: Sepia illustration with faint title: "Main Street Arthur Ont.," bordered by garlands of coloured leaves and an insignia with text: "The Empire Upon Which The Sun Never Sets." The card is addressed to Miss Mary Hood, Eramosa, from Mary Colwill, c/o Aggie Scott, Parker. She writes: "Mary - I went to Annie for a minute and I guess you called when I was away..." The card was postmarked at Arthur, Fergus, Guelph and Eramosa, 10 and 11 Oct. 1905. - ph 39086: B&w. Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 226, Arthur, Ontario. [unused]. - ph 39102: B&w. "Backyard Bach" - A young girl, a dog, and a young boy with a fiddle sit on the steps of a cut limestone[?] home. Addressed to Mrs. Ruth Pollard, R.R. #7, Guelph, Ontario, signed Pat Mestern, who writes: "Just had a moment to write. I'm glad you got your books. Next reprints are 'Ferrier's Reminiscences' of Fergus' and Byerly's 'The Beginnings of Things," postmarked Fergus 29 and 30 Oct. 1980. - ph 39103: B&w. St. Andrew's Church, Fergus. Lila and I was out to church yesterday but failed to see you there. any word about the dances yet." Postmarked Rockwood 25 Aug 1920. SERIES 2: A.O.U.W. ASSESSMENT NOTICE POSTCARDS, 1883-1894. The Ancient Order of United Workmen was a fraternal organization, founded in Pennsylvania, USA in 1868. Each member paid into an insurance fund to cover benefits paid to a member's dependents when he died. Each time a member died, $1 was due from surviving members, to re-establish the fund. The postcards listed below report the deaths of members and the assessment owing.
