Description |
Loose documents, removed from the Tweedsmuir Histories and scrapbooks. Elora W.I. was founded 7 March 1931, as a branch of Centre Wellington District. A Committee for the Tweedsmuir History was appointed in April 1952, and the scrapbooks were maintained until 2000. Some of the original photographs and documents date from the 1800s. File 1: Indenture, 11 April 1860, between John Alexander, tavern keeper, Elora [Hotel], and Thomas Biggar, saloon keeper, Elora. [Removed from front of Tweedsmuir History, Book 3 (file 3)]. File 2: Transcript, 12 May 1945. CBC Radio report from Elora by John W. Fisher, entitled "Point on the Map" - "the story of a Canadian village at war and in victory...". 5 pages. [Removed from front of Tweedsmuir Hisory, Book 3 (file 3)]. File 3: Paper from Mrs. Marston [descriptions of Wellington County townships, ca.1840]; letter from Rose Clarke (wife of Col. Chas. Clarke) to Kay Marston ca.1950, touching on local politics, pioneer settlers. [Removed from back of Tweedsmuir History, Book 3 (file 3)]. File 4: Handbill prepared for election of December 1857.
