Description |
The Hotson photograph collection consists of photographs of Fergus and area people and places, ca. 1890-1986 which were taken by, copied by, or collected by Ed Hotson of Fergus. These photographs include both original and copy prints. The collection also includes issues of the Beatty Bros. magazine "Victory Views and News, 1942-1944, a telephone directory, 1925, and other documents. Ed Hotson (ca.1930-25 Apr. 2000) was born and raised in Fergus, the son of William and Gertrude Hotson. As a teen he studied photography in Toronto until illness forced him to put this on hold. After recovering and completing high school he worked for a time for Beatty Bros. Ltd. in Fergus, and from 1960-1990 worked as a photographic technician for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. He was active in the Fergus Camera Club, Greenspace Wellington, and other local groups. The Fred Hotson in ph 9558 is Ed Hotson's brother. SERIES 1: Published documents, 1925-1983. They include photographs and reports of people, events, and activities at Beatty Bros., to be sent to employees and their families serving in the military during the Second World War.
