Wellington County documents and postcards, 1895-ca.1980. File 1: Autograph book pages, 1895. [ MU 1304 ] 27 birch bark sheets, each approximately 9 x 14 cm, inscribed with signatures, poems, and verses by campers at Hiawatha Camp, Birchdale [Farm?], Puslinch Lake, 03 August 1895. Includes inscriptions by: - Jennie E. Anderson and Maggie Anderson, both of Hespeler, Ontario. - Hattie Bradley of Hespeler. - Bert Cober, "Big Pig Isl[and]." - David Eagle of Hespeler. - Miss A. Elmer. - Mabel Ewing of Puslinch, Ontario. - Mary Graeb of Hespeler. - Miss Ethel Hartley of Brantford, Ontario. - Annie Jardine, and Nellie Jardine of Hespeler. - Alice M. Limpert, and Luella Limpert, both of Hespeler, Ontario. - E.Y. Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. James Palmer, all of Guelph, Ontario. - Alex Parks: "breakfast time cook boss". - Gussie Pringle of Hespeler. - Emma Richardson of Hespeler. - Edward "Ed" Rife, and Jennie Rife of Hespeler. - Alice M. Roos of St. George, Ontario. Most of these people were born in Ontario in the 1880s. File 2: Programme, ca. 1890. [ MU 1304 ] - item 1: Birchbark card with a programme that included music performances, possibly from Hiawatha Camp at Puslinch Lake, ca. 1890. People listed on the programme include Miss Bushirt, John Doerr, David Lippert, Annie Goetz, Austin Shantz, Joe Shants, Elo Shantz, Nelson Thomson, Fin Weaver, and Irvin Woelfle; inscribed on reverse, "Mrs. Becker"; affixed with yellow ribbon. Most of those people was born in Ontario around 1878. Found with items in File 1. File 3: Postcards, ca. 1925-1980. [ STACKS ] Numbers inscribed in pencil on reverse indicate value of each ascribed by the person from whom the donor purchased them. - ph 47137: Sepia-toned streetscape looking north on Tower Street from Queen Street, Fergus, ca. 1925. Stone building at northwest corner of Tower at Queen Street at left. Also visible is small stone building at north end of Tower Street bridge, Melville Church, hotel building on St. Andrew Street at Tower Street, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church at top of hill, and Fergus Post Office clock tower. Boy on bicycle cycling east on Queen Street. Two young girls beside Tower Street bridge at right. Vehicles on Tower Street in distance. Photographer unknown. Unused. - ph 47138: Colour streetscape identified on reverse as "Main Street, the business district of Mount Forest, Ontario", ca. 1975. Colourful banners are stretched across the street; parked cars line both sides of the road. [ MU 1304 ] Blank cards with illustration printed in brown on cream-coloured paper; each imprinted on reverse of each, "From an original drawing by Dorothy Clark McClure / Copyright, The Red House Studio, Aurora, Ont." - item 1: Greeting card with illustration by Dorothy Clark McClure, entitled "Hortops Mill (c.1830) Rockwood, Ontario"; it depicts a person working at a mill; signature and 1971 date imprinted lower right; imprinted on reverse, "This magnificent old mill built to last by Scottish stonemason in 1830 is still operational some 150 years later. Of particular interest is the causeway over the mill race cut deep into the gorge." - item 2: Greeting card with illustration by Dorothy Cark McClure, entitled "Drimmies Mill Hotel and Inn, The Tooth of Time, Grand R., Elora Gorge, Ontario" showing the view looking north across the Grand River towards the Elora Mill Inn and stables; signature and 1975 date imprinted on image lower left; imprinted on reverse, "Built by Scottish Stonemasons in 1866, this fantastic 5-storey mill has recently been renovated and restored by its new owners to create an impressive and beautiful hotel and dining complex.
