FILE 2: House log, 1997. -Item 1: Copy of house log created by Marjorie Durnford in 1997, detailing the history of construction and changes to the house and property at Part Lot 14, Concession 3, Division D, Guelph Township, 7421 Wellington Road 30; Marjorie Durnford and her husband George Durnford had a house built on the property in 1973, and over the years expanded the house and improved the gardens; Durnford was inspired to create the log (the original of which she left in the house after she moved), after being asked to give a presentation on the subject to the Ontario Federated Women's Institute 100th anniversary meeting in hamilton in June 1997; the log includes an introduction, and sections dealing with ownership, location, plans, construction, basement, windows, garage, hydro, telephone, heating, well and water, septic system, drainage, driveway, garden shed, sunroom, trees and other plantings, occupants, and miscellaneous; is heavily illustrated with photographs taken by the author, and these include images of the house, John Smith laying the stone masonry, Vic Sellner Limited employee laying the oak floor, Alfred Schnurr Electric Company Limited truck, Ontario Hydro truck and employee, Charles Hill drilling the well, Tait Brothers extending the drain, as well as images of George and Marjorie Durnford and their son Bob at the property; 50 pages [25 sheets] removed from binder for conservation purposes. |
