Photographs and postcards of Wellington County, including Belwood, Erin Township, Fergus, Hillsburgh, Mount Forest, Orton, and Salem, ca.1885-1931. file 1: An unused weekly offering envelope from the Hillsburgh Church of Christ, ca. 1910. [MU 1261] Photographs and Postcards, ca. 1885-1931. Located in photograph STACKS unless otherwise listed. Belwood - ph 54161: Black and white postcard of Belwood showing the bridge over the river and the surrounding neighbourhood, ca 1910. [Same as ph 10949] Erin Township - ph 54162: A mounted black and white class photograph of S.S. #4 Erin Township, also known as the Peacock school, 26th of September 1928. The nineteen students are in three rows with their teacher to the right. They are, presumably, standing outside of the school as the background is a brick building. The boy in the middle of the front row is holding a chalkboard that reads "S.S. 4 Erin / Peacock School / Sept. 26 - 28". A stamp on the back of the photograph give the photographer "J. B. Hastings / 91 Wood St. / RA. 3272 Toronto 5, Ont.". Fergus - ph 54163: A black and white postcard of the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Fergus, ca. 1910. The photograph shows a side view of the hospital; there is snow on the ground and trees surround the building. A water tower is also viable in behind the building. The card has been addressed to a Mrs. A. Weber in Detroit MI, but it was never sent, as there is no indication postage was ever attached. Hillsburgh - ph 54164: A black and white postcard of South Main Street in Hillsburgh, ca. 1912. The postcard was addressed to a Mr. George McKee in Stan City, Saskatoon, NWT from a Willis (no last name). The body of the message just lets George know that Willis and that whomever he is traveling with are doing well and that he hopes George is doing well too. - ph 54165: A black and white group photograph of the "Hillsburg[h] Old Boys Club Reunion - Toronto March 27 -1931". The photograph looks like it was a taken in a banquet hall and the men are in suits and women are in formal dresses. Some of the men sitting in the front row have instruments. [MC 72] Mount Forest - ph 54166: Black and white portrait photograph of an unidentified family, possibly from Mount Forest, ca. 1885. The family includes a young couple and a baby. The mustached man is wearing a suit and is seated in a chair, the women is standing to his right and is wearing a dress with buttons all the way down the front, and the baby is seated in front of the women on a pillow, which is placed on a chair. The baby is holding, what looks like, a photograph its hand. The back of the photograph has the photographers name on it; it reads "W. King / Photographic Artist / Mt. Forest, / Ont.". Orton - ph 54167: A black and white post card of the exterior of S.S. #2 Erin Township, also known as Orton Union School, ca.1891. [Same as ph 10951] - ph 54168: A black and white photograph of a parade of girls in white dresses holding a banner with "Orton / S.S. #2 / 1931" inscribed on it, 1931. The flag also has the Ontario in the middle of it. Salem - ph 54169: A black and a white postcard of the Mill Dam in Salem, ca. 1903. There was a letter written on the back but it has been scribbled over with a black marker. The postcard has a green one cent stamp that features the bust of Edward VII. Carter and Isaac, Elora photographers - ph 54170: A mounted black and white photograph of an unidentified family in front of their home, taken by Elora photographers Carter and Isaac, ca. 1920. The family is comprised of an older women in a dress, a dog, a young girl in a dress with a bow in her hair and a man with a moustache. They are all to the left of their porch which connected to their one and a half story stone home. |
