Wellington County Historical Society, essay competition, 2018. The essay competition was entered by seven adults and three students; Julie Goudie, Gary Bryant, and Silvana Sangiuliano wrote of their experience in restaurants: ADULTS - Item 1: My First Summer Job, by Evelyn Robson, Belwood. [Third Prize] - Item 2: My Summer Job, First and Best, by Ian Easterbrook, Fergus [entered under the pseudonym of George Spelvin]. [First Prize] ADDED 7 MAY 2025 - ph 65269: Ian Easterbrook peers through a hole at the side of the stage of the Mountain Playhouse, a summer theatre in Montreal. There he ran the lighting board, which he remembers was half-a-dozen Variac transformer-dimmers and twice that number of silent mercury toggle switches. On top sat an enormous resistance rotary dimmer which was heavy-duty enough to control every light on stage, all at once. Ian worked there as an apprentice during the summers of 1959, 1960 and 1961.
