Provenance |
This signature quilt was created at the end of the Second World War in 1945 and lists names of those from Elora, Ennotville, Fergus, Guelph among others. Ernest McGee of Guelph won it in a raffle in Guelph circa 1945. Ernest's daughter, Vera McGee put the quilt in her hope chest. Ernest's son, Elton McGee, served as a rifle instructor at Camp Ipperwash during the war. Vera married Archie Saunders, who served overseas during the Second World War with the Canadian Army Signal Corps. The quilt was passed down to their daughter, Nancy (Saunders) Brickwood, who later gave it to her uncle, Jack McGee. |
